Gather with us for a Big Sit.
Juneteenth Big Sit
Saturday, June 21, 2025
10 am to noon EST
On Zoom
Join us for our Big Sit on Zoom focused on the theme “Juneteenth.” Inspired by our history of Juneteenth commemorating the end of slavery, our contemplative morning will explore Jesus’ message of freedom for all. We will center together on Zoom for two hours with songs, Taizé, Lectio Divina, two Centering Prayer sessions, and an inspiring story.

In 2020 we presented a Centering Prayer workshop for the first time on Zoom. Afterward, one of our friends mused, “Now that it’s possible to reach people who live outside our local area virtually, wouldn’t it be great if we could gather with all the many other people around our country?” Thus began our Big Sit ministry. Previous boundaries of location, time, and even religious membership collapsed as we found joy, peace, and consolation together in our gatherings.
We grew, as people joined us from all around the world, searching for a place to worship, united with others with different backgrounds and different religions. Our Big Sits became a contemplative liturgy where our expanded community could share insights and find fellow travelers across the globe.
We marvel at how wonderfully Spirit guides our team! Our team members are always surprised at how our different gifts emerge as we plan each event. We choose themes to structure our presentation. Some are: Broken Hearts Mended, Divine Feminine, and Come and See. We find scriptures, songs, Taizé chants, and stories relating to our theme. We plan prayers, Lectio Divina, two Centering Prayer sessions, and an inspiring story, enhanced by our slide presentation. To get a better idea of the experience, here are some of the comments we have received:
· *I thought the entire two-hour presentation was outstanding!! Clearly, the work that went into sharing it with me and others was well worth it.
*It was a helpful time of grounding in a period of personal and public stress.
*My younger brother died suddenly a few hours before the big sit so it was consoling to sit within a loving community.
*Love the Big Sits. The sharing during Lectio Divina enhances my resting time. Love to hear how the Word inspires everyone so uniquely.
One of the best experiences of my life! Truly very moving and inspirational-deserving of national recognition! Thank you so much.
